Sacerdos, exfamilia, Ioarib Machab. seu Assamon, dicti ab Avo, Pater Iudae Machabaei, vir pietate clarus, Iudaeum quendam idolis palam sacrificantem, iuxta mandatum Antiochi zelô Domini accensus, occidit ad altare ipsum, quod et diruit: ac mox etiam interfecit Antiochi Regis Legatum, praecipientem idolis immolare. Idem postea auctor fuit, pugnadi Iudaeis, etia die Sabbathi, cum iam mille occubuissent, religiose nimis observantes hunc diem. Multi itaque Iudaeorum adiunguntur Mathathiae, et sibi iudicem creant, qui et Sabbathis eos docet pugnare: quod si non feceritis, inquit, vobismet ipsis eritis hostes, in illo die contra vos venientibus inimicis.
